My Favorite Generator for Pitching Machines
Super Quiet Inverter Portable Generator
If you own a pitching machine, then you know you don’t have as many options for a generator as a concession stand operation or someone with a food truck. Big, bulky units are out of the question, as they will you down as you are trying to move it from place to place. A super quiet inverter portable generator that goes along with your pitching machine has to be portable.
You need a lightweight, portable generator that’s quiet yet can power all sorts of items, from your smartphone to your refrigerator, but most important in this article, and for you, your pitching machine.
Both generators that will be discussing are inverter generators, which means it’s more beneficial than the average generator. An inverter generator produces what is known as clean power. That gives you more options regarding what you can power, which is what is called for when powering your machine.
In this review, I’m going to make a little comparison. Nothing overly detailed but give you enough information to make an informed decision.
The Predator 62523 Recreational generator is Gasoline-powered and is rated for 1600 watts/2000 watts surge load. Has a float style fuel gauge and a 12-volt output for charging batteries, etc. Manual start only and is parallel capable.
The Honda EU2200 generator is Gasoline-powered and is rated for 1800W and 2200W surge load. It also has the same features and the Predator 62523 but includes its exclusive Eco-Throttle System, which is to offer excellent fuel efficiency
What Can It Power?
Predator 62523 reviews on Amazon claim it’s as quiet as the Honda.
Honda EU2200i is so quiet; your neighbors will thank you. The EU2200i operates at 48 to 57 dBA, which is less noise than a normal conversation. This makes it ideal for Pitching Machines, camping, supplemental RV power and any other activity that requires a quiet operation.
Performance and Gas “Usage”
Predator 62523 has a 6-1/2 hours run-time at 50% capacity
Honda EU2200i Runs 4.0 to 9.6 hours on a single tank, depending on the load. This makes it the ideal choice for overnight power, or long-time applications.
Plenty long to run a pitching machine a few outings before filling it back up.
Starting It Up
These two inverter generators have a recoil start type. This manual start is often used for portable generators that have small outbound motors and internal combustion engines. You may also find recoil start on chainsaws, lawnmowers, and sometimes even ATVs!
Weight and Portability
The Predator 62523 inverter generator is the slightly larger of two generators it is 22.6 x 12.6 x 18.5 inches and the Honda EU2200i is 20 x 11.4 x 16.7 inches, a slight difference in comparison. The Predator 62523 and the Honda EU2200i both claim to be the Super Quiet Inverter Portable Generator.
So since that is both generator’s claim, let’s see what they weigh. Super Quiet Inverter Portable Generator number one, weighs just 47 pounds out of the box and Super Quiet Inverter Portable Generator number two, also weighs only 47 pounds out of the box, so there’s a no difference in weight. And I am going to go back and call them by there product name. :- )
There are no wheels included for either generator. That means you will have to pick up and carry the generator from Point A to Point B rather than drag it.
That said, you do get four little plastic rubber stoppers that will secure it once you place it where you want it.
Price/Where to Buy
You can buy both generators on Amazon, and they both include Prime Shipping which will give you a fast delivery.
Setup, Unboxing, and Extras
The generators are incredibly lightweight out of the box. That’s the first impression you’ll get from it, as many reviewers have said the same thing. You shouldn’t expect the inverter generator to be ready to go right away, though. Instead, it will likely you will have to buy the fuel to top it off and fill it with the recommended oil.
There may be some minor assembly required to set up the inverter generator. Of course, if you follow the instruction manual included with your product, setup shouldn’t take you longer than 10 or 15 minutes.
You shouldn’t have to worry about any type of maintenance for at least the first six months or a year. It’s a good idea to keep the exterior of the generator free of dust. If you’re stashing it outside, look out for dirt and other debris.
Keep all outlets clean, and all caps closed when the inverter generator is not in use. When you’re done using your Pitching Machine for the year, you should strongly consider cleaning your generator and stashing it in your garage.
A lot of the exterior components are plastic, so be careful not to drop the unit. Otherwise, you could risk cracking its plastic shell, exposing the interior parts that are supposed to be covered.
Generator Information When Using with a Pitching Machine
1. Most your three-wheeled Pitching Machines like the Hack Attack and Junior Hack Attack requires a generator capable of providing clean electricity 1000 watts at 120 volts 60hz.
2. Be sure the on/off switch is “OFF” before plugging Pitching Machine into the generator.
3. Start the generator and allow it to reach full speed before turning the on/off switch “ON.” IMPORTANT: Generator speed fluctuations can damage the electronic speed control. Maintain
adequate fuel in the generator at all times.
4. Turn the on/off switch “OFF.”
before shutting off the generator
These are few important things to remember and believe me it’s not that hard to make it part of your routine.
The Predator 62523 recreational inverter generator and the Honda EU2000i generator are both exceptional little generators that prove you can have your cake (warmth and comfort) and eat it too where ever you may be using it.
With the Honda just coming in below $1,000 and weighing under 50 pounds, you should easily be able to find some space to nestle this inverter generator. Renowned for being quiet, charging lots of items, as well as including a slew of great features you get a lot of value for the price. With that said the Harbor Freight Predator 62523 price between $500 to $600 was right with the Honda in all testing.
While either inverter generator isn’t perfect, I think you’ll find it works fine for many needs. Whichever generator you decide to power your pitching machine I want you to buy a generator that will help around the house in case of an emergency. Whether you rely on it to keep you and the family entertained with TVs, computers, and mobile devices or you use it to stay warm or cool.
Given the huge price difference—the Predator for me has a step up and sells for under $600 where the Honda, “The King” of generators goes for $1,000—are they comparable? Yes, according to Consumer Reports’ testing.
If you’re going to use your recreational generator for just your pitching machine and maybe a little camping, consider buying the Predator. But if you also want to be able to rely on the generator as a source of backup power for your home (to keep the refrigerator and lights on during an outage), the Honda makes more sense and is a worthy investment.
